10 Signs of Successful People

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

Am not going to claim that I am a successful person, despite statements from other people saying that I am. Ha.

What I am is an enthusiastic observer. I love watching people and this is what comes out of it.

#1. Successful people have a sense of humour.
Yeah, yeah. Hard working people are always the ones on the way to the top, I know that. But without a sense of humour, you’re not getting there. Believe you me.

I have met a lot of people, successful and not, and a sense of humour is something ALL the top people share.

#2. Successful people don’t whine.
Usually, they swear and then laugh. (See?) And then they look around to see how they could fix the problem. They don’t look around to find something or someone else to blame. No, sir.

For tip top people, blame is not something they need to take care of. It’s the problem that needs attention.

#3. Successful people see everything as an opportunity.
"Well, I’m here to work, not to do anything else." "I am here only to study English." Those are things I have heard along they way, and where are those people who said them? Nowhere in the radar.

The cream of the crop people do not usually mind having extra things to do because they see it as an opportunity to learn. They have they mind set on bigger goals thus they welcome anything, any chance at all to better themselves.

#4. Successful people do not care what other people think.
Not that they are rude. It’s more about having too much faith in themselves to bother about what other people might think.

"I’m going to be a graphic designer. My grandfather asks me everyday what I am going to eat. I told him, I’ll be eating rice, of course." An exact quote from a friend of mine who is now a successful businesswoman at the age of 27.

#5. Successful people are not the most organised people in the world.
This is a bit hard to explain. Some may appear okay but most of them have, at best, piles of work decorating the desk.

Have you ever noticed that the best place to eat is usually a bit crazed, not that easy on the eyes? It’s the same thing.

#6. Successful people do not compare themselves to other people.
That’s what really set them apart. They have their own standard.

If you are going to measure your success to other people’s, you’re only limiting yourselves.

#7. Successful people give compliments.
They may not overly generous with compliments but nor are they stingy with them.

Compliments go along way in the making of a great working athmosphere and successful people know that they need exactly that.

#8. Successful people do not advertise themselves.
Oh sure, they take credits of what they actually do. They take compliments well.

But you will never see a successful person boasts about what he’s done or what he’s got, nor will you ever see him throw his weight around. In fact, you’ll realise that the most successful people are nice people.

The seemingly up-and-coming success that is loud about himself and shows off his power every five minutes? He won’t last longer than that.

For a successful person, the knowledge that he’s done well is enough.

#9. Successful people have faith.
Here in Indonesia, most of the Number 1 people I’ve met have faith in God. They may not be the most religious people but they have this underlying belief that there is a power bigger than anything they can fathom.

Living with that in your head push you to do even better everyday. It’s as simple as that.

#10. Successful people gossip.
Well, may be not in the sense you and I are familiar with, but they at least pay attention to local news… as local as the next cubicle’s.

They listen and they gather information. Knowledge is power, a cliche but true.

The Spring in My Steps

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

ALERT: Gooey contents ahead. If you are allergic to sweets or the likes, click the Back button on your browser.

I’ve found out that I am (annoyingly to other people, perhaps) ecstatic these days.

I actually walk with a spring in my steps, how about that?

Of course not after hours when my lovely boots are actively killing my feet but even then I still have a smile plastered on my face.

Don’t ask me why because I don’t now the answer to that myself.

Probably a lot of reasons rolled into one and there are too many for me to remember.

But here’s one of the latests to add into the equation:

Irish_luck
It was yesterday, Friday and a day after my birthday. I had to rush downstairs for a female emergency, a little annoyed because I was held back a couple of times. Add to that the fact that I hadn’t seen my Cutie Pie the whole morning. I was thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be perfect if this turned out to be his day off,’ grumbling and walking in the way that would’ve sent a herd of elephants rampaging away when I made my way out to the bank of elevators and there he was.

He was looking as cute as ever, in a black shirt no less. I didn’t think he could pull off a black shirt but apparently, I was wrong.

Still in my state of unexplainable bliss, I blurted out, "Ah, you’re going down too?" Which was a stupid question since we were on 45th and there was only one more level above us and it was a restaurant, for God’s sake. Not to mention we had never actually spoken to each other before.

He smiled (which was already enough for me!), saying, "I need to go to the Financial Department."

We chatted all the way to the 32nd floor where he was heading. I had already had the suspicion that his English was by far more superior than anybody else in Head Office but his knowledge in language teaching was surprising.

We parted with a promise I am NOT going to write here ^_^ but I think you guys would understand why afterwards I was practically bouncing all the way to the convenience store.

I warned you people from the first line. No insurance claims, OK.?

All Things New

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

Here’s the brief for the new things that popped into my life ever since that historical date of November 15th, 2007…

Sh*t. Joke’s on me.

Anyway, I’ve got too many new things to talk about so we’ll save that rant for later.

Gw akhirnya bisa tidur dengan bener lagi! HORE!

Sekarang gw dah alim, tidur mulai jam 11, jam 12. Keren kan. (Tetap aja, jam 10an dah ribut cari kopi gara-gara ngantuk gila-gilaan, hehehe.

Next…

Gw sekarang dipanggil Ibu ‘mulu! Outrageous!

Hahaha.

Berhubung gw pesennya  selalu yg aneh, gw gak terlalu ngefan ama tu tempat.

Eh, gara2 diajak Jane makan siang di situ, gw jadi suka (berhubung skrg dah pinter milih menu) en skrg malah jd addicted ama Nasi Ayam Nanking dia. Dan berhubung tu ayam dimasaknya sama dgn gaya masakan nenek gw - yg sudah membesarkan gw sampe ukuran yg skrg ini - nafsu makan gw jadi membabi-hutan. (Bukan membabi buta lagi, itu mah kelas bulu.. Membabi-HUTAN!)

Gila. Itung2 pengeluaran transpor plus biaya makan yg makin membludak, naik gaji gak berasa lagi dah. Hahaha.

Akhirnya gw ngomong k temen gw, Gw kos tempat lu aja dah.

Tempat dia emang ideal sih.

Yah, gak papa lah. Demi bertemu ‘pemandangan indah.’ ^_^

See you Friday, Cutie Pie!
